This is where things get slightly complicated as there is a "Freeview HD" version of BBC iPlayer that sends out signals with codes for compatible receivers to use. You should be able to see them now if you are. You need to be tuned to a main transmitter with the full complement of "muxes" to get them. They refer to Freeview HD because they need the processing power etc I mentioned above. These services by the way are not broadcast on the HD transmitter. If it does connect, the light on your modem/router should make it obvious (disconnect any other devices from the internet first) The 110 image should appear more slowly as it is downloaded but if your set is not (yet) suitable, you will see a default message in the same type as on 111 almost immediately as these are sent as a "slide" like the "BBC 3 off air" messages. Then tune to 111 and you should see the typeface is very different. You should see the logo in the top left and a grey box saying the service is coming soon. Apart from the first generation of Freeview HD boxes that are not software supported, most boxes can or will after a software update be able to do this.Ī simple method of seeing if your set will respond to the code is to tune to Freeview 110. The new services on Freeview 110, 111 and 112 use broadcast codes so your set needs to recognise that a code is being broadcast and to be able to "dial" it. Some are pre-programmed like VieraCast and other are sent as code when you tune to a TV channel. To access the internet based services, the box needs to know what "IP address" to "dial" - in a similar way to typing - UK Online in your browser. Not all Freeview HD boxes and televisions have the necessary software to be able to access the services. These services are very bandwidth hungry so make sure your internet provider allows unlimited downloads with no "fair use" policy that is actually a cap.įreeview HD products are required for these services because they have the necessary processing power and the ethernet connection (as standard) to be able to decode the signals from the central computers. You seem to have your router near your TV so another ethernet lead may be needed. OK to start at the beginning, all of these services are delivered over the internet so you need a reasonably fast broadband (at least 2 Mbps). Thanks for reading any help as always is very much appricated One other thing I note is that on youtube I have seen serveral adverts which have obviously been broadcast on TV for these service and upgrading to HD freeview however these adverts have not been broadcast in my area at all yet I guess this is because HD is not available in my area yet? Or indeed if there is some one in my area who recives the services via a different freeview HD TV or box via the hannington transmitter despite the lack of HDTV channel broadcasts? May be someone with the same model TV (Panasonic TX-P42S21B) in another area where HD freeview is being broadcast can tell me if they recieve the Iplayer etc services? Hoping some one could tell me if it is the TV that cannot receive these services or if it is just the area I live and that I will get them once HD freeview is broadcast in my area? The one other question i do have is if its the TV thats not capable of reciving iplayer etc over Freeview HD/IP what is the point of the Ethernet port on the TV? Some press releases seem to state these are available on all freeview HD TV's and boxes others seem to suggest it varries depending on age and manufacture.Īt the moment as far as I can see I do not have access to any of the of the above services im not sure if this is down to my TV not being capable of running them or if its down to the area I live in, Hampshire, local TV transmitter is Hannington, bearing in mind at the moment there is no HD freeview broadcast in the area at all, I have notice three new channels appeared recently Vision, Stream and Connect not sure if these are related to the Iplayer, youtube and love film services? When I select these channels I just get a message stating these are freeview HD channels (when I checked I am receving these on a normal SD DVB-T signal and not a HD DVB-T2 signal at this time) and they are coming soon. I've seen recently that Iplayer, youtube and lovefilm are apparently now available on freeview HD TV's and set top boxes. Hoping some one can help me, I have a Panasonic TX-P42S21B (cheaper end of the range hence no viera cast), owned it for just over a year and very happy with it, its a freeview HD set and I have it connected up to the internet.
